Paphiopedilum spicerianum

A lithophytic or terrestrial perennial orchid native from Bhutan and northeastern India through Myanmar to Yunnan, Paphiopedilum spicerianum grows on rocky slopes and limestone in wet tropical and subtropical habitats. Each shoot produces a single flower above a fan of strap-shaped leaves. The flower has a broad white dorsal sepal with a central maroon stripe, long green petals with strongly rippled margins, and an olive-brown slipper-shaped pouch. The species is assessed as Endangered by IUCN. Photographed in Florida.
