Santolina chamaecyparissus
This plant is an aromatic evergreen subshrub native to Italy and the northwestern Balkan Peninsula. Finely divided silver-gray leaves densely cover the branching stems, and rounded yellow flower heads rise above the foliage on slender stalks. Each button-like head contains many small disk florets and lacks showy ray florets. It tolerates drought and salt and is grown in dry gardens and low borders. Its aromatic foliage is used in potpourri and dried arrangements. Photographed in Colombia.
