Sabal minor
Sabal minor is a small trunkless or short-trunked palm native to the southeastern United States. Large fan-shaped leaves rise from an underground or very low stem. Tall branching flower stalks extend above the foliage, carrying numerous small cream flowers that later become dark fruits. The species grows in moist woodland, floodplains, and swamp margins and is unusually tolerant of cold compared with many palms. Photographed in Florida.
