Ratibida pinnata yellow drooping ray flowers surrounding an elongated pale green central disk

Ratibida pinnata

Ratibida pinnata is a perennial herb native to central and eastern North America. Tall branching stems carry deeply divided leaves and distinctive flower heads. Drooping yellow ray florets surround an elongated gray-green central disk that becomes brown as seeds mature. Mature central disks contain many small dry fruits, and the persistent cones remain upright after the yellow rays have fallen. Photographed in Florida.
