Cleome hispidula is a tropical shrub native from Colombia and Ecuador south to Bolivia. Compound leaves occur along upright stems, while terminal clusters carry red flowers with long projecting stamens. The elongated fruits hang below the developing blossoms. The species grows in wet tropical environments of northwestern South America. Research-grade observations under its exact taxonomic synonym document it in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.
