Pleurothallis colossus numerous arching clusters of small pale flowers above large leathery leaves

Pleurothallis colossus

Pleurothallis colossus is an epiphytic orchid native from Costa Rica through Panama and Colombia to northwestern Ecuador. Its large leathery leaves support multiple arching flower clusters carrying many small pale blossoms. The species grows primarily in wet tropical forest, where its roots attach to tree surfaces without drawing nutrients from the host. Research-grade observations document it in Colombia and Ecuador. Photographed in Colombia.
