Platycerium bifurcatum
Platycerium bifurcatum is an epiphytic fern native to eastern Australia and nearby islands. Rounded sterile fronds clasp the supporting trunk and collect organic material, while forked fertile fronds extend outward. Brown patches of sporangia develop on the undersides of fertile fronds and release spores. Research-grade observations document cultivated or naturalized plants in Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, and Peru. Photographed in Colombia.
