Distimake quinquefolius

Native to tropical and subtropical America, this annual or perennial herbaceous vine trails along the ground or twines through surrounding vegetation. Its slender stems can extend about 13 feet. Each leaf has five narrow leaflets, with the middle leaflet usually largest. Small white, trumpet-shaped flowers grow in clusters. Rounded capsules remain partly enclosed by papery sepals and contain up to four seeds. In Colombia, it occurs from lowlands to about 3,450 feet. It has become naturalized in Queensland, Australia, in woodland, streamside vegetation, and rainforest. Photographed in Colombia.
