Cydonia oblonga (Quince)

Cydonia oblonga, commonly known as quince, is native to the Caucasus region and western Asia. It is a small deciduous tree that produces large, aromatic, pear-shaped fruits with a bright yellow skin when ripe. Unlike apples and pears, its raw fruit is typically too hard and astringent to eat fresh, but it becomes soft, fragrant, and sweet when cooked. Quince has been cultivated for thousands of years and is valued in traditional cuisines for making jams, jellies, and preserves due to its high pectin content. Photographed in Peru.
