Crescentia mirabilis
Crescentia mirabilis is a rare tree native to Cuba. Like other Crescentia, it exhibits cauliflory, producing its flowers directly from trunks and branches. The flowers are tubular with thick, wrinkled edges, opening into a broad mouth that reveals a long, central style. They are usually nocturnal, opening in the evening to attract bat pollinators, which are essential for their reproductive success. Photographed in Flordia.
