Clematis 'Madame Julia Correvon' with large velvety red flowers and pale green stamens in full bloom
Clematis 'Madame Julia Correvon'

Clematis 'Madame Julia Correvon' is a hybrid clematis cultivar introduced in France in the late 19th century. It is recognized for its deep red, velvety flowers that can measure up to 4 inches across. The blooms are single, with four to six slightly crinkled sepals surrounding a contrasting cluster of creamy yellow-green stamens, creating a striking visual effect. Flowering typically occurs in summer and may continue into early fall, providing long seasonal interest. This cultivar belongs to the Viticella group of clematis, which are known for their vigor, disease resistance, and ability to thrive with hard annual pruning. 'Madame Julia Correvon' is often described as one of the most reliable and floriferous clematis in this group, producing abundant flowers on new growth each year. Its climbing habit allows it to reach heights of 10 to 12 feet in a season. It has earned the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit. Photographed in Virigina.
