Close-up of Ceratostylis retisquama showing star-shaped orange-red flowers with narrow pointed petals emerging from clustered buds on a dark green leafy background
Ceratostylis retisquama

Ceratostylis retisquama is an epiphytic orchid native to Southeast Asia and Indonesia, where it grows at mid to high elevations on mossy tree trunks. The species is notable for its flowers, which display vivid orange to reddish tones with long, narrow petals arranged in a star-like pattern. Each flower measures under one inch across but appears in succession, giving the plant a long blooming period under natural conditions. Unlike many orchids that produce blooms from elongated stems, Ceratostylis retisquama generates flowers in close proximity to the foliage. Photographed in Florida.
