Caucaea olivacea
Caucaea olivacea is an orchid native to the Andean regions of Ecuador and Colombia. It grows as an epiphyte, attaching itself to tree branches where mist and high humidity are consistent. The plant often forms small colonies in cooler habitats where filtered light and constant moisture favor its growth. The flowers of Caucaea olivacea are delicate and range from lilac to soft purple with darker violet spotting on the petals and sepals, while the lip is broader, ruffled, and accented with yellow streaks near the throat. Photographed in Ecuador.
