Cattlianthe Okinawan Rock
Developed from orchids native to Mexico, Central and South America, and Trinidad, this evergreen perennial hybrid belongs to a group combining Cattleya and Guarianthe ancestry. Okinawan Rock is a cross between the hybrids Chloe and Chocolate Drop. Like other orchids in this group, it has thick roots and swollen stems called pseudobulbs that store water and support leathery leaves. Breeding produces varied flower colors, forms, and scents. Use a coarse orchid mix that drains freely, and propagate established plants by division. Photographed in Florida.
