Calliandra tolimensis is native to montane and cloud forest regions of Colombia, particularly in the Andean department of Tolima for which it is named. It is a small tree that can reach. The flowers are composed of numerous slender stamens that emerge from a small green calyx, measuring up to about 2 in long, with the basal portion white and the tips flushed with pink to magenta, forming a soft, brush-like hemisphere. This color gradient makes individual blooms highly visible against the deep green bipinnate foliage. Each inflorescence is borne singly or in small clusters along young branches. Photographed in Colombia.
