Calea urticifolia

Calea urticifolia is a perennial shrub native to Central America, typically found in open woodlands, disturbed grasslands, and along roadsides. It thrives in warm, seasonally dry climates with well-drained soils and is tolerant of moderate drought once established. The plant belongs to the family Asteraceae and is characterized by upright branching stems and opposite leaves with serrated margins and a rough, sandpapery texture. Its inflorescences bear bright yellow composite flower heads, each composed of narrow elongated ray florets surrounding a compact disk of tubular florets. Photographed in Panama.
