Bauhinia madagascariensis

Endemic to Madagascar, this deciduous shrub or small tree generally reaches about 20 feet tall and can grow to about 33 feet. It occurs in deciduous woodlands and scrubland in the south and southwest of the island. Its showy red flowers have contrasting yellow markings at the bases of the petals. It is cultivated as an ornamental in warm climates. Photographed in Florida.
