Close-up of Baccharis dioica showing clusters of bright yellow flower heads with numerous protruding stamens against dark green foliage
Baccharis dioica

Native to Florida, the Yucatán Peninsula, and the West Indies, this perennial shrub grows naturally in coastal hammocks, dunes, and along mangrove margins. It typically forms upright, branching stems with alternating, oblong leaves and produces dense clusters of small, yellowish flower heads rich in stamens, giving them a fuzzy appearance. Flowering occurs mainly in warmer months, and like other members of its genus, it is dioecious, with separate male and female plants. Photographed in Florida.
