Fuchsia crassistipula
Endemic to Colombia, this upright or scrambling shrub grows in Andean forests and reaches about three to ten feet tall. Its leaves occur in opposite pairs or whorls, usually with four or five leaves at each node. They have finely toothed edges and may be purple-tinged underneath. Hanging pink flowers develop in clusters and are followed by fleshy berries. Older branches have peeling bark. In Colombia, it occurs between about 7,875 and 9,185 feet. Photographed in the department of Tolima, Colombia.
