Clerodendrum quadriloculare
This plant is a tropical shrub or small tree native to the Philippines and New Guinea. Its oval to oblong leaves are green above and deep purple beneath, with smooth to wavy margins. Dense flower clusters develop at the branch tips. Each flower has a long, slender pink tube ending in five white lobes that curl backward, with projecting stamens and a long style. The plant spreads through root suckers, which can grow some distance from the parent. Outside its native range, it has become invasive on Pacific islands such as Kosrae. Photographed in MedellĂn, Colombia.
