Oscularia deltoides
Native to the southwestern Cape of South Africa, this trailing succulent shrublet is found almost exclusively on sandstone rocks in the mountains from Ceres to George. Its fleshy, three-angled leaves have conspicuous reddish teeth along their margins and keel, a feature that distinguishes it from other species in the genus. The scented pink flowers open in the afternoon and appear in early summer in its native range. Its fruit capsules repeatedly open when wet and close when dry. The species received the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit. It can be propagated from cuttings. Photographed in Bogotá, Colombia.
