Native to the Philippines it is known as the Christmas palm due to its fruits turning a vivid scarlet in the winter, reminiscent of holiday decorations. One of the most planted ornamental palms worldwide, it is a prevalent landscape palm in Southern Florida. Photographed in Barranquilla where it is cultivated below 6,300 feet in Colombia.
