Pink bromeliad flower spike with blue-purple flower tips

Aechmea gamosepala

Native to southeastern and southern Brazil, this perennial bromeliad grows on trees and forms clustering rosettes. Pink flowering stalks carry blue-purple flowers. The leaf bases hold rainwater, and new shoots develop around the base before the old rosette dies after flowering and fruiting. It can be propagated by separating these offsets. Photographed in the department of QuindĂo, Colombia.
