A Clethra fimbriata inflorescence with white flower buds
Clethra fimbriata

One of eight native Colombian species of the genus Clethra with a habitat between 5,900 and 12,100 feet. Its foliage is characterized by thick, leathery leaves that have a glossy surface, often with a rusty indumentum on the undersides. The flowers develop in dense racemes, beginning as clusters of small brownish buds that later open into white, fringed blossoms. Photographed in the eastern Andes mountain range of Colombia.
