Helianthus annuus (Sunflower)
Originating from North America, particularly from the Southwest U.S. to Mexico. The Sunflower is a large annual plant known for its broad, hairy leaves and immense, yellow flowers with a dark center. The utility of this plant is quite diverse. Its seeds are a valuable resource, yielding edible oil used in cooking, while also serving as livestock forage and bird food. The tasty seeds are nutritionally rich, containing up to 46% polyunsaturated oil. The extensive cultivation of this plant has led to a vast array of cultivars.
