White Solanum americanum flowers with yellow stems converging around the green-yellow style
Solanum americanum

American black nightshade, a species native to the Americas, and naturalized across tropical regions. The white, star-shaped flowers with their yellow centers give way to green fruits that mature into shiny black berries. While parts of the plant are edible and used for medicinal purposes in some regions, caution is advised due to the presence of toxic compounds in some parts of the plant, which can be harmful if ingested improperly. Its robust nature, along with its widespread occurrence, indicates a high level of ecological adaptability, allowing it to become a common weed in many tropical and temperate countries globally. Photographed in Bogota, Colombia.
