Plumeria obtusa

A shrub or small tree native from southeastern Mexico to Honduras and across the Caribbean, it belongs to the Apocynaceae family. Its glossy leaves have blunt, rounded, or notched tips and are concentrated near the ends of the thick branches. Clusters of white flowers with yellow centers are strongly fragrant, especially at night. The species occurs in dry, rocky coastal thickets, and its seed pods release flat, winged seeds. It is harmful if eaten, and its sap can irritate the skin and eyes. It is planted as a street tree in Barranquilla. Photographed in Barranquilla, Colombia.
