Meriania nobilis rosada
Native only to Colombia, this plant is a tree of Andean forests and open areas. It grows naturally in the Central and Western mountain ranges and is cultivated in Bogotá. The young stems have four sharp, winglike ridges, and the leaf stalks are also slightly winged. Large flowers have five broad petals and two distinctly different sets of stamens. The anthers release pollen through small pores. Dry, urn-shaped capsules contain numerous tiny, wedge-shaped seeds. Photographed in Bogotá, Colombia.
