Originating from Madagascar, the plant is adored for its colorful allure with a profusion of phlox-like flowers. Known for its anticancer bisindole alkaloids like vinblastine and vincristine, it has a revered place in traditional medicine, especially in the Ayurvedic system. Various parts of the plant are used for treating a myriad of ailments including, but not limited to, cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. Over the years, researchers have discovered a total of 344 compounds in this plant, testifying to its complex biochemical makeup and potential in pharmacology.
